The technology under implementation aims to substantially reduce the Carbon Intensity (CI), a measure of an operation’s CO2 emissions as related to the product’s value. For the Baptiste Project at Decar Nickel District, FPX Nickel is set to introduce a new technique that reduces the CO2 by-products at one of the largest nickel deposits globally. This relevant endeavor is a response to the global call to combat climate change and resonates with the worldwide green transition in energy sources.
On the technological end, the company reputable for its progressive initiatives plans to make its CO2 footprint significantly smaller through high-pressure grinding rolls (HPGR) and the application of stirred media detritor (SMD) grinding. The former grinds down the feed material by exposing it to high pressure in a confined space, while the latter reduces particles to fine sizes using optimized inert grinding media, which minimizes energy use. Consequently, these technologies can lower energy consumption and result in small-sized particles that require less energy in subsequent processing stages, thus lowering Baptiste’s CI by as much as 40%.
